In response to yesterday's feature from John Petrolino, "NRA Files $200 Million Claim Against Former Attorney Wm. Brewer & Firm Alleging Malpractice, Negligent Misrepresentation a representative for Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors issued the following statement.
Statement from Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors
In 2018, after the State of New York announced a campaign coordinated with other states to destroy the NRA, one firm was asked to save the organization. We accomplished the job, including leading the NRA's advocacy that secured the most important First Amendment win in the U.S. Supreme Court in the last 65 years. To say we are proud of our record over the six years we served as the NRA's counsel is an understatement. The NRA's own leaders said so publicly. In 2019, then-President Carolyn Meadows said she had never worked with an outside law firm "more on call, attentive, and positively in tune to the needs of their client." At the conclusion of our representation in 2024, the NRA's Special Litigation Committee, composed of then-President Bob Barr, former President Charles Cotton, and longtime director David Coy, stated: "Fortunately, we chose the Brewer firm to defend us." Former President Charles Cotton said "the Brewer firm's strategic counsel and unique brand of advocacy helped us achieve victory" in the Supreme Court. We will vigorously defend that record of excellence against these baseless claims.
