Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world's most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics, is pleased to announce that it has joined HOWL for Wildlife and its partners in the Yes on 83 coalition, which is urging Colorado voters to approve Amendment 83 on Nov. 3.
Amendment 83 would establish a constitutional right for Coloradans to hunt and fish by traditional methods. It would also name hunting and fishing as the preferred means of managing the state's fish and wildlife populations, while preserving the state's authority to regulate hunting, fishing, and wildlife management.
"No optics company does more for conservation and hunting rights than Leupold & Stevens," said Bruce Pettet, President and Chief Executive Officer of Leupold & Stevens, Inc. "Hunters and anglers built this country's conservation model, and they still pay for it. That heritage belongs to every generation that follows us into the field, and it deserves the same protection as any other right we hold. Colorado has the chance to secure it in the state constitution. We stand with HOWL and the hunters and anglers of Colorado, and we urge a yes vote on Amendment 83."
According to the Yes on 83 campaign, hunters and anglers fund more than 55 percent of Colorado's wildlife conservation through licenses, tags, and excise taxes. The state's more than 300,000 hunters and 950,000 anglers generate $3.25 billion in economic impact and support 25,000 jobs.
The amendment does not authorize trespass on private property. It does not eliminate licenses, tags, seasons, or bag limits, and it does not apply to nongame species, endangered species, or any species illegal to hunt under federal law. Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the state legislature keep their authority to regulate.
Leupold's support for Amendment 83 builds on decades of work for hunters, anglers, and the habitat they depend on. Leupold is the Official Optics Partner of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a Trailblazer in Conservation partner of the Boone and Crockett Club, and the title sponsor of the Oregon Hunters Association.
HOWL for Wildlife is a nonprofit advocacy organization that gives hunters, anglers, and conservationists a voice in wildlife policy and supports science-based wildlife management. HOWL was among the coalition partners that submitted more than 180,000 signatures to place Amendment 83 on the ballot.
