Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world's most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics, is pleased to announce that the BX-6 Range HD rangefinding binocular has been named Editor's Choice for Best Rangefinding Binocular by Outdoor Life.
Outdoor Life's editors tested eight leading range-finding binoculars, scoring each on ranging performance, display and optics, features, and value. The Editor's Choice award goes to the unit with the highest overall score, and the editors named the BX-6 Range HD the top laser rangefinding binocular of the year in a competitive field.
The editors credited the BX-6 Range HD's optical performance, ranging engine, and ballistic solvers, noting that the pairing of Hornady 4DOF® and Precision Cut Archery® software delivers aiming solutions for both long-range and close-in shots. They also found the image bright and crisp to the edges, with very little color fringing. In Outdoor Life's field testing, the BX-6 Range HD returned ranges of 5,120 yards on reflective targets, 3,200 yards on trees, and 2,311 yards on deer-sized game.
The Leupold Control App earned particular attention as the piece that puts those ballistics to work in the field. "The app is the best of the dozen or so brand-specific ecosystems," the editors wrote, describing it as fast, feature-rich, and easy to share with any device via QR code.
"We built the BX-6 Range HD for hunters and shooters who want one tool to identify the target, range it, and provide the most accurate shooting solutions possible," said Eric Overstreet, Technology Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. "Outdoor Life put it through a demanding test against the best in the category. We're proud of the result, and of the team that made it possible."
The Leupold Control App turns your mobile device into a command center for the BX-6 Range HD. With it, you can customize modes and settings, build and modify ballistic profiles, choose your reticle and display layout, capture ranges, and drop GPS waypoints in a few taps. It is available as a free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The BX-6 Range HD is the first rangefinding binocular to utilize the Hornady 4DOF® ballistic calculator. Rather than relying on a ballistic coefficient, 4DOF® pairs Doppler-measured drag data with the physical model of your specific bullet, providing reliable drop and wind drift predictions at long range. For bowhunters and competitive archers, Precision Cut Archery (PCA) software uses arrow weight, arrow velocity, peep height, and environmental conditions to deliver shoot-to distances corrected to your sight tape. Leupold's CDS ballistic technology offers 25 selectable ballistics groups for rifle hunters. Both 4DOF® and PCA® provide real-time ballistics through the unit's on-board environmental sensor.
Precision GPS Pinning converts ranged targets into shareable map waypoints on platforms including onX, HuntStand, DeerCast, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Baseline Maps, and ATAK.
The BX-6 Range HD features a red, dimmable AccuView Display, interchangeable form-fit eyecups, and simple on-unit programming using five directional buttons. A binocular case, lens covers, and an Arca-Swiss tripod adapter are included with purchase.
The BX-6 Range HD is waterproof and extreme climate tested. It is backed by Leupold's Optical Lifetime Guarantee and 5-Year Limited Electronics Guarantee.
