Duck Commander, a world-renowned leader in duck call manufacturing, is celebrating the start of Louisiana's first-ever dedicated black-bellied whistling duck hunting season, taking place Oct. 3–11, 2026. The new season gives Louisiana waterfowl hunters a dedicated opportunity to pursue black-bellied whistling ducks, a species that has expanded its range and numbers throughout the state in recent years. The season marks a new chapter for Louisiana hunters while providing another opportunity to experience the state's rich waterfowl resources in the field.
"Louisiana has always been a special place for duck hunters, and we're excited to see a new opportunity like this come to our state," said Jacob Mayo, brand manager of Duck Commander. "We appreciate the work the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries does to manage Louisiana's wildlife resources and create hunting opportunities that are rooted in conservation and responsible stewardship. As hunters, it's our responsibility to follow the regulations, respect the resource and help preserve these traditions for future generations."
According to the 2026–27 Louisiana migratory bird regulations, the black-bellied whistling duck season runs statewide from Oct. 3 through Oct. 11. Hunters may harvest a daily limit of four black-bellied whistling ducks, with a possession limit of 12. Shooting hours are sunrise to sunset, and hunters participating in the season are required to obtain a Black-bellied Whistling Duck Hunting Permit. Hunters must also report their hunting effort and harvest following the season.
Only black-bellied whistling ducks may be harvested during the special season, making it especially important for hunters to positively identify their target before taking a shot and to review all applicable state and federal regulations before heading afield.
For Duck Commander, the new season represents more than an additional opportunity to hunt. It is another chance to introduce hunters to Louisiana's diverse waterfowl resources and reinforce the connection between hunting, conservation and time spent outdoors.
Duck Commander encourages hunters to review the latest LDWF regulations and permitting requirements before participating in the season. Details on the black-bellied whistling duck permit, reporting requirements and the complete 2026–27 hunting regulations are available through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
