Get out and explore Michigan's managed waterfowl areas this fall! You'll hear from local staff about hunting conditions, tour the areas, and see what each unique location has to offer for the upcoming waterfowl seasons. All open houses begin at 6 p.m. at each area's headquarters.

Michigan's managed waterfowl areas are part of the Wetland Wonders. These areas provide exceptional waterfowl hunting opportunities and are managed to provide waterfowl habitat for nesting and migration.

Notice for Pointe Mouillee hunters

Due to failed culverts and road washout at the Mouillee Creek crossing, Roberts Road will remain closed to traffic south of Reaume Road throughout the 2026 waterfowl season.

This cuts off access to one of the two main boat launches at Pointe Mouillee, and we understand the disappointment and frustration this causes. However, there is no alternate route available. We have investigated temporary fixes and determined that they are unsafe.

Since the infrastructure that caused the road to wash out was obsolete, reconstructing the road requires engineering and design work, as well as surveys and permitting.

The Michigan DNR is working toward an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Monroe County Road Commission, to safely reconstruct Roberts Rd. at the Mouillee Creek crossing. We will provide updates on the Pointe Mouillee webpage as this project progresses.

Correction: Veterans preference drawing dates at managed waterfowl areas

Dates for Pointe Mouillee and Muskegon were listed incorrectly in the waterfowl hunting regulations summary. Veterans preference drawings at managed waterfowl areas will take place on the following dates:

• Pointe Mouillee – Tuesday, Nov. 10 (corrected date)
• Fish Point – Wednesday, Nov. 11
• Harsens Island – Wednesday, Nov. 11
• Nayanquing Point – Wednesday, Nov. 11
• Shiawassee River – Wednesday, Nov. 11
• Muskegon County Resource Recovery Center – Thursday, Nov. 12 (corrected date)
