Fall has arrived in Oklahoma along with a slate of events for outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts. Cattle and Quail Field Day
When: 8 a.m. - Noon Sept. 26
Where: Cross Timbers Wildlife Management Area
Join ODWC, Quail Forever, and other sponsors at Cross Timbers WMA in Love County to discover how to successfully integrate cattle production with targeted wildlife conservation. Hunter Education
When: Sept. 26, Oct. 3, Oct. 7, Oct. 10 & More
Where: Communities Statewide
Hunter Education is a key step in the journey of a hunter, and the Wildlife Department offers plenty of in-class opportunities. Upcoming courses can be found in Tulsa, Blanchard, Sallisaw, Wayne, Hulbert, Wewoka, Miami, Mountain View, and more. You can even take the class online. Hunter Education covers a variety of topics including hunting safety, hunter responsibility, wildlife identification, wildlife conservation and management, survival, archery and muzzleloading. Shotgun Training Education Program
When: 9 a.m. - Noon Sept. 26
Where: Canton Wildlife Management Area
Join ODWC at the range for a wingshooting workshop and hone your shotgun shooting skills. Zero experience is required, and everything is provided including throwers, targets, ammo and shotguns, plus expert instruction. Classes are free, but attendants must possess a valid Oklahoma hunting or combination license (unless otherwise exempt). Registration is required.
Monarch Tagging & Roost Watch
When: Oct. 3, Oct. 7, Oct. 10
Where: William H. "Bill" Crawford Building (Hackberry Flat Center)
October marks a season for monarch migration in Oklahoma. Special events are coming up at the Hackberry Flat Center near Frederick that will give you a close-up education while celebrating the annual monarch migration through Oklahoma. There are a range of events and opportunities (some limited to school groups); however, online registration is required.
