
Block Management is a cooperative program between private landowners and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks that helps landowners manage hunting activities and provides the public with free hunting access to private land.
Some Type 2 Block Management Areas (BMAs) in south-central Montana have updated reservation dates for the 2026 season, detailed below. To make a reservation for these properties, visit the Region 5 office at 2300 Lake Elmo Drive in Billings, or call 406-698-0288 or 406-247-2959. Reservations will only be taken between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. New this year, hunters must have names, addresses and vehicle information including license plate to make reservations for hunting parties.
- Griffith-Shawmut, BMA 169: Reservations for this property will open on Monday, Aug. 10, and will be taken only on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This property will be limited to eight hunters or three parties per day.
- Miller/Jackstone, BMA 163: Reservations for this property will open on Monday, Aug. 24, and will be taken only on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Robuck Ranch, BMA 220: Reservations for upland bird hunting on this property will open on Monday, Aug. 24, and will be taken only on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No pheasant hunting is allowed on the property. Big game hunters can access the property via a sign-in box and do not need to make reservations.
- Schulz Ranch, BMA 214: Reservations for archery hunting only on this property will open on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and will be taken only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Basin Ranch, BMA 226: This property is new to the Block Management program. Reservations for this property will open on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and will be taken only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hunters with 900-20 antelope licenses can make reservations for this property beginning Aug. 11.
- Diamond X Farms, BMA 63: Reservations for this property will open on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and will be taken only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hunters will have a permission slip for this property and will also need to sign in at the roster book for each hunt.
Every year, FWP publishes a guide with details on each Block Management property. Guides for the 2026 season will be available at FWP offices in mid-August, or you can request a guide online.
