There are several Hunter and Bowhunter Education classroom courses and in-person field days for online students open for registration in southeast Montana right now. Currently there is one combined Hunter Ed/Bowhunter Ed field day for online students scheduled.
Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985 must complete a Hunter Ed course before purchasing a hunting license. People ages 10 and up can attend an in-person, instructor-led Hunter Ed course at no cost. Students ages 12-17 have the option to attend an in-person, instructor-led Hunter Ed course, or they can take Hunter Ed online but are required to attend an in-person Hunter Ed field day for online students. There is a fee for the online course, but field days are free. Those 18 and older can take an in-person, instructor-led Hunter Ed course or take online Hunter Ed, and they are not required to complete an in-person field day.
Requirements are the same for Bowhunter Ed, except that students must be 11 to attend an in-person, instructor-led course, and 12 to take Bowhunter Ed online. Those taking it online must then complete an in-person Bow Ed field day for online students.
Registration for all offerings and more information can be found on FWP's website at fwp.mt.gov. Courses are scheduled at various times throughout the year based on volunteer availability, so check the website periodically.

Field days are open to anyone age 12 and older, but those ages 12-17 must first complete online Hunter Ed. Field courses are generally outdoors, so participants should dress for the weather and for hunting conditions.
