Gulf Council Recommends Increasing Lane Snapper Catch Limits

The Gulf Council took final action on an Abbreviated Framework Action to increase lane snapper catch limits in pounds whole weight as follows:

The results from an underwater video survey indicated that the population could support additional harvest so, the Council's Scientific and Statistical Committee recommended an increase of a little more than 200,000 pounds. This increase is consistent with the best scientific information available and is expected to reduce the likelihood that the annual catch limit is exceeded.

This document will be transmitted to the Secretary of Commerce for consideration and implementation as soon as practicable.
