BILLINGS – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the Montana Audubon Center are hosting an amphibian education night with family-friendly activities focused on learning about and celebrating amphibians. The free event will take place Friday, May 8, at the Montana Audubon Center (7026 S. Billings Blvd.) from 6–7:30 p.m. All ages are welcome.
Participants at the education night will learn about the unique characteristics of amphibians, common threats to these animals, play educational games and make amphibian-themed crafts. ZooMontana will also be at the event with amphibian ambassador species for participants to meet. Montana Audubon Center staff will lead Herpetology Hunt Hikes around the property throughout the evening.
In Montana, there are 15 species of amphibians, including 6 species of frogs, 4 toads and 4 salamanders and 1 non-native newt. The education night will take place during Amphibian Week, an initiative created in 2020 by Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation to increase awareness of and celebrate amphibians. This annual celebration is held the first full week of May.
