SCWA Concludes Youth Duck Hunting Season with Record Participation and 30 First Ducks Harvested

The South Carolina Waterfowl Association (SCWA) officially concluded its 2025–2026 Youth Duck Hunting Season this past Saturday with its final Heritage Hunt of the year, marking another impactful season of mentorship, conservation education and outdoor opportunity for young hunters across the state.

Through SCWA's Outdoor Heritage Events, including Heritage Hunts and Pintail Partners experiences, the season produced strong participation and memorable milestones:

– 209 youth participants
– 192 adult mentors and family members in attendance
– 545 ducks harvested
– 12 different species represented

Species harvested throughout the season included ring-necks, bluebills, wood ducks, northern shovelers, mallards, green-wing teal, blue-wing teal, ruddy ducks, buffleheads, long-tailed ducks, hooded mergansers and goldeneyes.

While harvest totals reflect a successful season in the blind, SCWA believes the most meaningful statistic goes beyond numbers.

Thirty first duck pins were awarded this season, recognizing young hunters who harvested their first duck.

"Moments like a child harvesting their first duck represent more than a successful hunt," said Drake Tindal, SCWA Outdoor Heritage Events Coordinator. "They mark the beginning of a lifelong connection to conservation and the outdoors. That's what our Heritage Hunts are truly about."

SCWA's Youth Heritage Hunts are designed to provide safe, mentored hunting opportunities while reinforcing wildlife conservation principles, ethical hunting practices and respect for South Carolina's natural resources. Experienced volunteers and supporters play a vital role in making each hunt possible.

While the waterfowl season has closed, SCWA's Outdoor Heritage Events continues.

Registration is now open for upcoming Spring Heritage Events, which offer additional hands-on outdoor experiences for youth and families. Those interested in participating or supporting future events are encouraged to visit www.scwa.org to learn more and secure their spot.

The South Carolina Waterfowl Association is dedicated to enhancing and perpetuating South Carolina's wildlife heritage through education and habitat conservation.
