Hunter and Bowhunter Education Opportunities in North-Central Montana

Hunter and bowhunter education in-person classes and field days will be offered at locations across north-central Montana this spring. These classes and field days are taught by skilled volunteer instructors and offer hands-on learning experiences, mentoring opportunities and the opportunity for students to ask questions of experienced hunters. Classroom hunter and bowhunter education courses are free.

Students aged 12 to 17 and students who will turn 12 by Jan. 16 of the current license year (March - Feb.) can take hunter and bowhunter education online but must also pass an in-person field day in order to be certified. Field days are free, but fees apply for the online course.

To purchase or apply for a Montana license or permit, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must complete a hunter education course issued by Montana, any other state, or any Canadian province. Hunters can also hunt as an Apprentice beginning at age 10. To purchase a Montana bow-and-arrow license, a hunter must complete a certified bowhunter education course or show any prior year's bowhunting license from any state or province.
