Gulf Council Convenes its Standing and Shrimp Scientific and Statistical Committees

The Gulf Council will convene a meeting of its Standing and Shrimp Scientific and Statistical Committees (SSC) on February 24-26, 2026. The meeting will be held at the Gulf Council Office located at 4107 West Spruce Street, Suite 200, Tampa, Florida, 33607.

The SSC will start by reviewing the SEDAR 87: Gulf Penaeid Shrimp Stock Assessments. The SSC will then review the federal recreational data collection program (Marine Recreational Information Program's Fishing Effort Survey (MRIP-FES)) recalibrations and discuss the pilot studies being conducted to gauge the accuracy of estimates produced.

The SSC will also review an interim analysis of greater amberjack and consider generating updated catch advice based on its results. The SSC will hear presentations on stakeholder workshops hosted by the Southeast Fisheries Science Center, and using statistical models to estimate discard mortality and improve pre-season forecasting and in-season management.

The SSC will discuss the social and economic effects of increasing commercial individual fishing quota mid-year, and discuss the SEDAR 100 stock assessment for Gulf Gray Triggerfish.

Public comment will be held in-person and over the webinar each day before the meeting adjourns.
