RetailBI Annual Retail Report Details Market Softening and Continued Inventory Correction for 2025

RetailBI, powered by Gearfire, has released its 2025 Shooting Sports Executive Report, an annually published and widely anticipated industry analysis relied upon by manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to understand shooting sports retail performance. Built on real-world point-of-sale and eCommerce data, the report provides a clear, data-backed view of sell-through trends across a broad network of firearms retailers nationwide.

The report finds that 2025 same-store new firearm unit sales declined approximately 13% year-over-year, reflecting continued demand compression following the historically elevated market environment of the early 2020s. Retail firearm inventory also declined year-over-year, extending the industry's ongoing correction cycle.

Kaleb Seymour, VP Data & Analytics, Gearfire / RetailBI states, "In this market, narrative isn't enough — the difference is visibility. The companies that win are the ones making decisions based off what consumers are actually buying, not what they hope demand will be."

Key findings from the 2025 Annual Report

Demand softened further in 2025, with units and revenue declining at similar rates

The industry continued working excess inventory out of the channel, though the pace and alignment varies by category

Some product segments are showing early indicators of increased price competition, despite relatively stable market-level pricing

Category performance was not uniform. Though handguns were comparatively resilient, rifles and shotguns experienced deeper declines, inventory remains elevated relative to pre-pandemic levels
