Effective 8 a.m. Tuesday, the Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) set port condition X-ray for the Port of Charleston and all other terminals and facilities due to the expectation of sustained gale force winds generated by Hurricane Florence that may arrive within 48 hours.

Based on information from the National Weather Service and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, boating and other recreational use of the Upper Potomac River, including its creeks and streams are under a no-use advisory through Friday, March 19. River levels are hazardous for recreational use on the entire main stem of the river from Kitzmiller to Little Falls.

Following numerous reports of lake sturgeon being caught recently by anglers in the Upper Niagara River near Buffalo Harbor, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) reminds the public that these fish (Acipenser fulvescens) are listed as a threatened species in New York State. There is no open season on the fish and possession is prohibited.
