Poultney River and Hubbardton River Water Use Advisory Goes Into Effect

Waterbury, Vermont - The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department announces that the Lake Champlain sea lamprey control treatment of the Poultney River and Hubbardton River in West Haven will begin on Wednesday, November 7th at 7:00am.

A temporary water use advisory will go into effect at that time for the lower Hubbardton River, below the falls off River Road in West Haven, for the Poultney River between the Carver Falls Dam and the outlet of South Bay, near Whitehall, NY and for Lake Champlain water users between the outlet of South Bay and the Dresden/Putnam, NY town line across from Cedar Mountain in Benson, VT.

The department advises against using stream or lake water in these areas for drinking, swimming, fishing, livestock watering or irrigation while these restrictions are in effect.

These restrictions are expected to last from approximately 10 to 15 days, and the advisory will be lifted as soon as monitoring indicates that the chemical has dissipated.
