Kentucky S3DA West Regional Indoor 5-Spot Tournament

Williamsburg, KY – On Saturday, January 20, 2018, Kentucky S3DA held their West Regional Indoor 5-Spot Tournament. Daviess County High School Archery Team hosted the record event at Daviess County fairground. Kentucky S3DA set a record of 285 participating archers.

Mike Willis, Head Coach of Lindsey Wilson College Archery states, “It was an honor to attend the S3DA West Indoor Regional, the largest regional indoor to date in Kentucky. The tremendous talent and impact S3DA is having on college archery programs is phenomenal. It provides a large pool of archers for recruiting purposes that are prepared and college ready for tournaments. It is a wonderful thing to witness and all of our coordinators, coaches and parents should be commended. I am already looking forward to the next one”.

Daviess County Middle School Archer Jacob Higdon held the winning donation ticket for a new Mathews Triax donated by Whittaker Guns/Sportsman headquarters and the DCHS Archery Team.

“Hosting our first indoor regional last year was a huge step for us, but this year far surpassed that being the largest indoor Kentucky S3DA regional to date. We never expected to have this large of a turnout. When you have a program that is this amazing geared toward the youth of today it is amazing to see how fast it is growing. We are truly blessed to have such a strong support group within our team, community and our archery families across the entire state who travel this far to participate in our tournament,” states Daviess County High School Coach and tournament host, Mike Wilson.

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting.  The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving

thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
