South Texas Shooters Take Rookie Div. National Rifle Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Lone Star State's South Texas Shooters outgunned two Ohio squads to take the Rookie Division in Iron Sight Rifle competition at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

Posting a final title winning time of 257.07 seconds, the South Texas Shooters were led by Naomy Lilly of McAllen with 56.37, followed by Dustin Duhamel of Harlingen with 56.69, Aidan Ruiz of Edinburg with 62.19 and Joaquin Elizondo of Edinburg with 81.82.

The Ohio Steel Stingers finished second with 300.84 and were led by Lily Wolf of Hamilton with 64.89. Supporting Wolf were teammates Tiffany Schatzle of Trenton with 75.60, Morgan Darnell of Hamilton with 78.43 and Clay Schmit of Hamilton with 81.92.

In third place were the Ross County Steel Ringers with 360.77. Aiden Colopy of Londonderry was top gun for the Steel Ringers with 69.29, followed by Cayden Patterson of Kingston with 69.57, Zane Pickerrell of Chillicothe with 103.53 and Charley Clyne of Kingston with 118.38.

Held July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, 430-plus athletes representing 19 states put over 55,000 rounds down range during eight days of competition in the sport of Speed Shooting. The format of the match has shooters facing four stages, each with five steel plates. Racing against an electronic timer, each stage is designed to test a shooter's speed and accuracy.

The Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sport of Speed Shooting to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills.

Nationally, there are over 1,300 students and more than 400 coaches from 31 states participating in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program.
