The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Archery Team had a successful conclusion to their indoor season over the weekend shooting in the USCA Indoor Regional/National Tournament in Ashland, Kentucky. Along with UC, there were 11 other schools represented; Kentucky Christian University, Campbellsville University, Liberty University, Hocking College, Eastern Kentucky University, California University of Pennsylvania, Union College, Madisonville Community College, Pennsylvania State University, Midway University, and Ashland University.



The tournament consisted of 7 divisions including Women's Recurve, Women's Bowhunter, Women's Compound, Men's Basic Bow, Men's Bowhunter, Men's Compound, and Men's Recurve. All divisions shot two 600 rounds over the course of two days for a possible perfect score of 1200.



BY THE NUMBERS

Women's Recurve

· Alice Buswell (Westborough, MA) topped the podium with a 1st place finish, shooting a 1120.

· Lakin Crum (Ashland, KY) earned 2nd with a score of 912.

· Shannon Coleman (Rush, KY) completed the podium sweep in 3rd place, finishing with a 903 total score.

· Teammate Hannah Blevins (Eubank, KY) followed close behind in 4th with an 876.

· Lacey Reliford (Somerset, KY) finished in 8th with a score of 791.



Women's Bowhunter

· Haley Haygood (Liberty, MS) took home a win, finishing in 1st place with a score 1159.

· UC's Courtnie Carr (Frankfort, KY) earned 2nd place shooting a 1153.

· Nikki Nivison (Lawrenceburg, KY) came in 4th scoring a 1108.

· Hannah England (Munford, KY) finished the tournament in 7th with a 1079.



Women's Compound

· Kayla Dowell (Payneville, KY) earned 2nd place with a tournament score of 1127.

· Kristen Swords (Ecru, MS) shot a score of 1,113, finishing 5th in the region.

· Madeline Brown (Booneville, IN) followed close behind with a score of 1102, earning 6th.

· Teammate Brianna Messmer (Cadiz, KY) finished 7th scoring a 1098.

· UC's Danielle Foley (Mechanicsville, VA) finished the tournament in 8th, shooting a 1088.



Men's Bowhunter

· Caleb Kirby (London, KY) led the podium sweep in 1st, shooting an 1172.

· Aaron Cook (Stanford, KY) followed close behind in 2nd with a score of 1171.

· Jayson Byrd (Goodway, AL) shot a score of 1169 earning 3rd place.

· Josh Owen (Meadsville, KY) placed 5th with a score of 1,149, followed by teammates Jordan Crusenberry and Daniel Chitwood and JD Morgan in 6th and 8th. Crusenberry (Williamsburg, KY) scored a total of 1,138 while Chitwood (Mount Washington, KY) earned a score of 1130.



Men's Compound

· Clint Moore (Falmouth, KY) finished respectively in 4th with an 1150.

· Close behind was John Whalen (Booneville, KY) in 5th with a score of 1149.

· Korey Snyder (London, KY) completed the tournament in 6th with a total of 1,146.



Head Coach Kris Strebeck commented, "We had a really great tournament this past weekend with many shooters hitting PR's and placing in the top three for the region. Now, we will just wait and see what our individual standings will be for the National Ranking. Next, we will begin preparation for Outdoor Regionals after we take a small break."
