Jim Shockey's UNCHARTED Visits Tanzania to Help Villagers

DENVER, CO– In the African nation of Tanzania, host Jim Shockey hears a cry for help that cannot be ignored. Villagers' crops are being destroyed and lives are in danger due to a lone bull hippopotamus that tears out crops with a single swing of its head. Throughout the village, Shockey hears the same story over and over again: help us, keep our children safe and find this destructive hippo. Watch this unforgettable episode on Jim Shockey's UNCHARTED exclusively on Outdoor Channel on Monday, August 17 at 10 p.m. ET.

Along with professional hunter, Michael Fell, Shockey is on the trail of finding the hippo every villager describes as a bull hippo, distinguishable by its hide of specific scars. They find groups of females and males, but none carry the markings described to the hunters. After numerous close calls, Shockey and Fell find two bulls alone in the dense bush. They are fairly certain one of them is the troublemaker. But before they can make a move, another bull hippo makes a charge from behind.

"Hippos are the most neurotic animals I know," said Fell. "As soon as you are near their safety zone, they notice you and they charge you. They kill more humans than any other mammal because they are so neurotic."

"We've had some interesting experiences in the past with hippos in these situations," added Shockey. "But if someone asks for help and we are capable of giving that help, then you help them."

Produced by Shockey's cinematographer son Branlin, who captures both the beauty and rigorous surroundings on video, the TV series offers audiences a glimpse into the excitement of treks across faraway locations. The physical agility and mental dexterity of Shockey is put to the test as he tackles some element of risk on his journeys. Nevertheless, his affinity for the untamed outdoors shines through, as does his passion for cultural exploration and discovery.

Jim Shockey has lived many lives as a wildlife photographer/videographer, a wilderness guide and an outfitter for the last two decades. The conservationist's exploits have taken him to 40 countries on six continents; including the wilds of the Yukon Territory, Sierra Madres of Mexico, Kalahari Desert in Namibia and the Australian Outback. He also can be seen with his daughter and co-host Eva Shockey Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on all new episodes of Jim Shockey's Hunting Adventures.
