Event pays out more than $47,000 in winnings
MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. - JD Nobles, of St. Johns, Florida, and Kyle Craven, of Macclenny, Florida, weighed a two-redfish limit that totaled 9.24 pounds to win the first regular-season event for the Atlantic Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela's on May 2 at Georgetown, South Carolina.
The veteran IFA anglers have one previous win at Jacksonville, Florida, and four second-place finishes over their 16 years fishing the IFA Redfish Tour. The anglers added this win by besting second place with a mere .01-pound difference.
Nobles and Craven fished under great conditions with light winds and plenty of sun. The duo ran south of the Santee River to work creek grass lines and oyster beds with Berkley Gulp! shrimp and mantis shrimp.
"It was great team work and a great partnership," Nobles said.
Second-place finishers Bub Mitchell and Tim Ward, both of Georgetown, South Carolina, barley missed first place with their 9.23-pound sack. For their efforts, the anglers took home $2,870 in winnings.
"The conditions were great and were conducive to our style of fishing," Mitchell said.
The team ran 10 miles and threw popping corks around grass, along with spinner baits and Berkley Gulp! shrimp.
Stuart Ricks, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Michael Dorman, of Aynor, South Carolina, brought 9.00 pounds to the scales to win third place. The anglers traveled 20 miles to the Santee Delta and targeted redfish with Berkley Gulp! swimming mullets over oyster beds.
The team won a total of $2,859, including the $1,565 in Anglers Advantage cash.
The next stop for the IFA Redfish Tour is at Houma, Louisiana, on May 30. All teams that enter at least a minimum of two events and compete in at least one event will qualify for the 2015 IFA Redfish Tour Championship.
