Feature Film "Lone Survivor" From Universal Pictures Uses UTM to Re-enact Scenes From a Covert Mission in Afghanistan by Navy SEALs
NORTH BRANCH, NJ - Ultimate Training Munitions (UTM) and Phoenix RBT Solutions, leading providers of weapon conversions, training ammunition and a top supplier of reality-based training programs around the world for armed forces, PTO's, law enforcement agencies and movie industry cast training and props, today announced its Non-Lethal Training Ammunition (NLTA) was used during the filming of "Lone Survivor," a new feature film based on Marcus Luttrell's non-fiction book of the same name about SEAL Team 10's failed mission: Operation Red Wings, in Afghanistan.
"Producers, directors and stunt coordinators have realized the advantages of using UTM/PHX's NLTA System when filming weapon-related scenes because it is safe, accurate and reliable," said Tony Lambraia, chief executive officer of Phoenix RBT Solutions. "Our NLTA has been used in multiple feature films, including 'Lone Survivor,' because it affords actors and film crews' unprecedented realism. With our products, actors can safely train and experience the closest thing to an actual fire fight or real life battle, which is a critical requirement when making a feature film about these types of intense gun battles."
UTM's Battlefield Blank Rounds (BBR), which are also referred to as noisy blanks, Silent Blank Rounds (SBR) and Man Marker Rounds (MMR) were used by "Lone Survivor" actors to safely train and recreate the battles endured by members of SEAL Team 10 as they faced Al-Qaeda operatives in the mountains of Afghanistan. Trainers from Phoenix RBT Solutions were also on set during the filming of "Lone Survivor" to ensure all involved were properly trained in the use of the UTM/PHX training system.
The film industry has a long history of using both blank and marking rounds during filming. However, UTM's NLTA is unlike anything else on the market. In addition to being safe and reliable the rounds are environmentally friendly. The SBR offers zero emissions and minimal heat generation. The BBR also has minimal emissions and low standoff requirements, making it easy to use the rounds in a variety of settings. UTM's weapon conversion systems feature a fail-safe technology that prohibits the firing of live rounds. UTM's "live-round lock-out" conversion kits eliminate the risk of injury on film sets. "This level of safety and realism has never before been seen from any other rounds available today," added Lambraia.
Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir Lone Survivor, whose book has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the power of the human spirit is tested when we are pushed beyond mental and physical limits. The "Lone Survivor" opened in theaters everywhere January 14.
"More and more television show producers and film executives are relying on UTM to help create realistic weapons scenes for viewers," added Lambraia. "Hollywood now realizes what law enforcement professionals and military members have known for a long time and that is UTM is the safest most reliable NLTA system on the market."
UTM has worked to support and raise the profile of those that serve and protect. In addition to "Lone Survivor," UTM also provided its NLTA System for many other programs including: the popular cable series "One-Man Army" on the Discovery Channel, the NBC reality series "Stars Earn Stripes." and the TV show "Revolution.
