Idaho Releases Video Highlighting Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area

IDAHO FALLS - A new visually stunning video entitled Tex Creek The Last Stand has just been released. The twelve minute project was filmed and produced by award-winning local videographer Kris Millgate and highlights the valuable Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located east of Idaho Falls. The Tex Creek WMA is 34,000 acres managed by the Idaho Department of Fish & Game (IDFG) to provide high quality habitat for wildlife. The video highlights the multi-faceted value of the area to both wildlife and humans. It has been posted to YouTube and can be viewed at http://youtu.be/byuLuyhThV4.

Through both imagery and interviews, the video highlights the critical importance of Tex Creek WMA to wildlife, especially for elk and mule deer as winter range, upland bird habitat, and special status species habitat. It also showcases the recreational opportunities the area provides for those living in or visiting eastern Idaho. The WMA is composed of lands owned by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. According to Shane Roberts, the Wildlife Habitat Biologist responsible for Tex Creek WMA, "Many eastern Idahoans know about the recreational opportunities associated with Ririe Reservoir, but they may not be aware of the wildlife-based management of the WMA lands surrounding the reservoir and the importance of these lands to wildlife ranging from Idaho Falls to the Wyoming border. "

Along with telling the important story of what is currently happening at Tex Creek WMA that benefits both wildlife and humans in eastern Idaho, the video was also created to talk about the need for everyone's help in making sure these lands can continue in wildlife-based management in perpetuity. An example of this diverse support is demonstrated by the varied interests that helped fund production of the video. State support was provided by the Idaho Department of Fish & Game, federal support by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation; private conservation groups such as the Mule Deer Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Trout Unlimited all felt strongly enough about providing for the future of the area to invest their resources.
