LITTLETON, Colo. - Colorado history will come alive on June 15 and 16 as historical re-enactors descend on Chatfield State Park for Slocum Cabin Days, two days of fun and learning. The 14th Annual Slocum Cabin Days offers a glimpse into the lives of the hardy men and women who lived in Colorado from the early 1800s through the 1890s.
Park visitors will be able to observe their camps and talk with trappers, miners and other hardy frontier folks to gain insights into the lives of pioneers and hear their tales of adventures.
An annual or daily park pass is required to enter Chatfield State Park, but the Slocum Cabin Days events are free. Bring the Family and join the fun learning about American history "West of the Mississippi." The events include:
• The Castle Rock Civil War Unit will set up an Infantry camp, perform non-firing drills and interpret military life on the frontier. Also, the 4th Texas Artillery will be firing their cannon at various times on Saturday.
• The late 1800's come alive with Gunfighters from Hands-On-History Colorado and Monarch Productions telling stories of how the West was really won! "Annie Oakley" will be on-hand, re-enacting her famous skills. Annie Oakley will appear, courtesy of Monarch Productions.
