Flash bang grenades (affectionately known as flash crash grenades) are excellent for some operations-but remain overkill for many. There has been over use of them due to the fact there is nothing else that does the approximate job. Flash bang grenades have set fires, seriously harmed and even killed people with direct contact blast effects.
Then there is the real danger of hearing loss and while some may deserve getting banged and burned there is also the problem of innocents, hostages and children who get the same flash/crash effects as the bad guys. This is especially a concern in law enforcement operations as opposed to military operations. Kill or hurt the wrong person and that municipality can expect a costly and fairly easy to win lawsuit for damages.
Flash bang grenades are costly (less the lawsuits) and can be difficult to tactical practice with inside of areas you do not want to damage. The DELTA light ball is low in initial cost and can be reused many times over.
