New York, N.Y. - September 14, 2011 - At the end of a heated, three-day battle, Thomas Boatwright of Perdido, Ala., bested 15 of the nation's top competitors in the 2011 Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge - Presented by Mobil 1. The 8th annual event, widely regarded as the nation's premier competition for hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts, was held September 8-10 at Dogwood Canyon Nature Park in Lampe, Mo.
The 2011 Total Outdoorsman Championship marks Boatwright's second title, repeating a feat he first accomplished at the 2009 event. In addition to being named the 2011 Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman, Boatwright takes home a prize package worth more than $25,000, including a Yamaha ATV, Leer truck cap and a trip to the CMA Music Awards. He will also be featured in the Total Outdoorsman Challenge television show to be aired on the Outdoor Channel later this fall.
The Total Outdoorsman Challenge pits sportsman against sportsman in a range of outdoor disciplines, as they compete for cash, prizes and honor of being crowned the nation's top outdoorsman. Boatwright out-competed the best of the best in seven outdoor skill events: fly fishing, bass fishing, rifle, shotgun, endurance, archery and ATV handling. Last year's champion, Chad Weatherford of Loris, S.C. placed second, barely edging out third place finisher John Sappington of Branson, Mo.

The eighth-annual Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge presented by Mobil 1 started back in April, at Bass Pro Shops retail stores around the country, where thousands of outdoorsmen vied for the chance to make to the National Championship. Of those, only 200 of the best outdoorsmen in the country scored well enough to advance to one of the four regional qualifying events in June. The top three from each regional event joined 2010's top three finalists and one wildcard winner at the Total Outdoorsman National Championship.
The Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge Presented by Mobil 1 enjoys support from: Bass Pro Shops, Columbia, Outdoor Channel, Toyota, Yamaha ATVs, Evan Williams, Allstate, Big Cedar, Magellan, Energizer, BowTech, Smith & Wesson, Thompson Center Arms, Truck Accessories, Gorilla Glue, 2011 Country Music Association Festival and Dogwood Canyon.
