Scholastic 3-D Archery recently held their 4th annual Western 3D National Championship and the 3rd annual Western Outdoor Target National Championship at the Garfield Creek SWA in New Castle, Colorado. The Garfield Creek State Wildlife Area (SWA) is a unique setting for an archery competition because of its natural beauty, diverse ecosystem, wildlife habitat, and challenging terrain. Archers from across the United States met to compete for the title of “Western National Champion” in their respective class and division. All archers that shot the 2024 Western S3DA Indoor, 3D and Outdoor Target National Championships also qualified for S3DA Western National Shooter of the Year.
S3DA National Training Coordinator Robert Carter said, “The S3DA Western National Championships have grown so much that this year we were able to bring in additional 3D targets to allow for bonus events. The Delta McKenzie Big Game and Long Shot Challenges were a hit with the western S3DA archers, and we will be looking to expand those in the future. The archers had to overcome many challenges during the course of the weekend including inclement weather, but everyone stayed strong and powered through.”
The S3DA National Staff has begun planning for future events. Everyone looks forward to the 2025 competition season. S3DA archers and their families are encouraged to take time off from target archery and spend time in the great outdoors. About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic 3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
