Fort Lee Successfully Managing First Hunting Season Using iSportsman Digital Rec Management Service

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — U.S. Army training installation Fort Lee, located in central Virginia, is the latest large-scale outdoor recreation program to start using the iSportsman Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) to manage their on-base hunting programs. iSportsman is the nation's leading recreation management software used to manage hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities at locations across the United States. The service is a product of ASciS (Applied Sciences & Information Systems, LLC).

Fort Lee recently completed their first deer season using iSportsman. The base’s investment in digital program management proved to be a great improvement in streamlining permit sales, checking in and checking out of areas, collecting harvest data, and allowing for continued access while minimizing in-person interaction during ongoing concerns with COVID-19. iSportsman is designed to increase program participation, enhance safety and security and reduce workloads for base personnel overseeing the hunting program.

Fort Lee is the 24th Army installation to deploy the iSportsman service. It joins other large base hunting programs such as those at Fort Bragg, Fort Knox, Fort Campbell, West Point and others. Home to the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM), as well as up to 70,000 troops in training and school, Fort Lee is the third largest training site in the U.S. Army. With large numbers passing through the base yearly, hunting, as well as many other outdoor recreational programs, are popular.

iSportsman allows hunters at Fort Lee to purchase permits easily on their home computers or over their mobile devices, check in and out of an area’s quickly without having to drive to a centralized sign-in point, find seasonal hunting information, record their harvest and much more. The service also improves overall base security by allowing natural resources and base security to identify who is on the base recreating in real-time, as well as improves overall safety for the sportsmen in the field. Should an emergency arise, base personnel can quickly identify the area the person is in to render aid.

“Being a Virginia-headquartered company, we are always excited to work with bases or organizations in the state we call home. Fort Lee is the fifth Virginia base to deploy the service,” says Aneil Kumar, CEO of iSportsman. iSportsman is the enterprise-level solution for the U.S. Army and U.S.Air Force natural resource programs and is on more than 50 locations across the United States, Alaska and Hawaii.

The Environmental Management Office at Fort Lee was quick to initiate and activate its own iSportsman portal for hunters to access. With more than a hundred areas open to the public and available for hunting, the new system makes tracking time in the field and recording harvests much simpler. Game on the garrison include doves, geese, waterfowl, whitetail deer, wild turkeys and other nuisance species regulated by the state of Virginia. With fall hunt seasons winding down and spring hunting seasons not far off, Fort Lee offers hunters an abundance of opportunities in the field.
