Michigan S3DA Hosts Annual Outdoor Target State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – Michigan S3DA recently hosted its annual Outdoor Target State Championship at the scenic West Michigan Archery Center (WMAC) in Rockford, drawing nearly one hundred archers from seven teams across the state. From swirling winds to long shooting distances, competitors faced every challenge head on and delivered. Despite the tricky outdoor conditions, archers stepped up to the line with focus and determination. The real story though was the community spirit that echoed across the field.

“The day started out cold and windy, but once the archers got on the line, the weather took a back seat,” said Andrea Koopman, Tournament Director and Michigan S3DA Regional Coordinator. “I love seeing the friendships and sportsmanship bloom – even in head-to-head eliminations. I’m so proud of our archers. A huge thank you to West Michigan Archery Center and all the volunteers for hosting. It takes a village, and we have an amazing group!”

Hearing archers congratulate each other and seeing their excitement despite being competitors is rarely found in sports other than archery. Karen Hernacki, a Rising Phoenix parent, shared how the program has impacted her family: “My daughter started with archery less than four years ago. Last year was her first year competing. The Michigan S3DA program has boosted her confidence and encouraged her to commit more and more time to archery. Coaches and archers are so friendly and inviting, even for a teen who started at an older age.”

The Young Adult division podium finishers were awarded college scholarship opportunities from six colleges and universities, highlighting the S3DA program’s commitment to education and the future of its athletes.

The West Michigan Archery Center, nestled in Rockford, has played a pivotal role in the growth of the Michigan S3DA program.
