FMG Publications’ YouTube channel is experiencing unprecedented engagement and growth this year, marking extraordinary milestones over the past few months, in particular.
In May, the channel had 1 million views in a single month for the first time. It soared to new heights in July by adding 10,000 new subscribers in a single month, surpassing 100,000 subscribers and recorded an astounding 2 million views in one month.
The first half of the year (Jan–June) saw a 121% increase in views compared to the previous six-month period. In the same timeframe, there was a 156% increase in subscribers.
Digital Content Editor Ashley McGee contends the accomplishments are largely owed to videos centered on the “what’s old is new” industry-wide trend, YouTube Shorts of clips taken from popular GUNS Magazine Podcast episodes and original short-form content developed by and starring Special Assignments Editor Roy Huntington.
“This content mix, combined with Roy’s signature style, has helped us carve a niche and stand out from the thousands of other firearms content creators on the platform,” she wrote in the August issue of Shooting Industry.
Huntington adds, “Just being ourselves, talking about the things we do and what we have personal experience with, presented with good production quality seems to really strike a chord with viewers, readers and clients.”
“Actually seeing how a product is used, hearing our experiences with them and our recommendations seems to be very important to viewers,” he continues. “They trust us, I think, due to our long legs in the industry with American Handgunner, GUNS Magazine and Shooting Industry. It’s nice to be trusted, and it keeps us on our toes to make sure our video content is correct, timely, appropriate and appealing.”
