New Jersey's rivers, lakes, and estuaries are home to many native plant and animal species. Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) pose a threat to native species, often outcompeting them for resources, altering habitats at the expense of native flora and fauna, and detrimentally affecting recreational activities such as fishing and boating.
More than 100 species of AIS have been identified and categorized in various stages of threat level ranging from the watch list to well-established. Examples of AIS include Northern Snakehead, Silty Pond Mussel, Red Swamp Crayfish, Flathead Catfish, and Hydrilla.
If you encounter any aquatic invasive species in New Jersey, please submit your finding in the new AIS Reporting Form. Uploading at least one image is required to submit a report. All reports will be reviewed by agency staff.
Your observations and reports will help NJDEP Fish & Wildlife accurately track, monitor, and prevent the further spread of AIS.
