S3DA to Offer Remote Basic Archery Instructor Course – August 2025

Scholastic 3-D Archery currently provides two levels of coach certifications: Basic Instructor and Advanced Instructor. To become a certified S3DA coach, individuals must first complete the Basic Instructor Training Course, which introduces fundamental coaching concepts, safety standards, and the core S3DA curriculum. Once certified, coaches are encouraged to pursue the Advanced Instructor Course, which typically takes place in person over two days and requires mastery of intermediate archery skills, strong communication abilities, and classroom leadership.

With the growing success of online learning, S3DA is expanding its offerings to include remote coaching certifications. While in-person training remains available, the remote option provides a flexible and accessible alternative for those who prefer to learn from home.

The August 2025 Remote Basic Instructor Course will be taught by Frank McDonough, a respected archery educator and host of the The Barebow Project podcast. Frank brings extensive knowledge and passion for archery instruction, making this course ideal for anyone looking to begin their coaching journey.

This self-paced, four-week course is designed for adults and incorporates weekly virtual meetings, scheduled assignments, and Google Classroom interaction. Participants can complete the course materials and activities on their own time, with support from the instructor throughout the duration of the course.

How to Register:

Once both steps are completed, participants will receive an email from the course instructor. If no email is received within 3-5 days prior to the course start date, please contact Membership Services Coordinator, Melissa Carter (melissas3da@gmail.com).

After successful completion of the course, the instructor will notify the S3DA National Office. Once your credentials are verified, you’ll receive a “Welcome to S3DA” email outlining the final steps to complete your coaching profile on the S3DA Sport:80 platform, including background check and SafeSport certification.

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, youth leader, or archery enthusiast, this virtual course is your opportunity to become part of a nationwide program that’s empowering youth through competitive archery and outdoor recreation. With expert guidance, flexible learning, and a supportive family-friendly community, S3DA makes it easier than ever to start your coaching journey – no matter where you are.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic 3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
