Salt Lake City Manufacturing Powerhouse Seeks Financial Leader Ready to Embrace Chaos and Build Something Epic
Forget everything you know about traditional Divisional Controller roles. This isn't about maintaining the status quo or babysitting an existing system. This is about walking into organized chaos with a tool belt and building a financial infrastructure from scratch.
A leading Salt Lake City manufacturing company is hunting for that rare breed of Controller who gets genuinely excited about transforming a scrappy team into financial rockstars. If you're the type who sees a messy situation and thinks "challenge accepted" instead of running for the hills, keep reading.
What Makes This Different?
The Reality: You'll be joining a mostly-new team where tribal knowledge is scarce and the playbook is still being written. Month-end close by Day 5-7. That's the target. Manufacturing variances that actually guide decisions? That's the expectation. Building structure where none exists? That's the job.
The Company: This isn't some stagnant operation coasting on past glory. This is a dynamic manufacturing company at an inflection point—growing, evolving, and absolutely not boring. They're part of a larger parent company, which means career trajectory options that most Controllers only dream about.
The Leadership Style Needed: Coach-meets-strategist. Someone who can roll up their sleeves to debug an ERP variance at 4 PM and present polished financials to the C-suite at 9 AM. You're methodical but not rigid. Transparent but tactful. A natural mentor who develops talent before it's desperately needed.
The Non-Negotiables
Let's be crystal clear about what won't work:
What WILL Work
The Opportunity
Report directly to the VP of Finance & Accounting. Lead financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, cost accounting, ERP oversight, and build a world-class accounting team that becomes indispensable to the business.
This role combines technical excellence with strategic partnership. You'll be the bridge between finance and operations, the trusted advisor to divisional leadership, and the coach who elevates every team member.
The Ideal Candidate
Technical credentials: Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance (CPA or Master's strongly preferred), 5+ years progressive accounting experience including controller/assistant controller level work, and proven manufacturing/inventory/cost accounting expertise.
The intangibles: You're a methodical problem-solver who breaks complexity into action. You communicate with clarity and build trust at every level. You're proactive, self-directed, and genuinely excited about developing others. You have refined presentation skills and can influence senior leadership without corporate speak.
Most importantly: you're energized—not exhausted—by change.
Why This Matters
The manufacturing industry desperately needs Controllers who understand that finance is strategic, not just transactional. This company gets it. They're not looking for a seat-filler. They're looking for a builder, a coach, a strategist, and a change agent all rolled into one.
If you've been waiting for a Controller role that challenges you, develops you, and gives you room to create something remarkable—this is it.
