Regal Products is proud to announce that it has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under the Veterans Health Administration Innovation Ecosystem (VHAIE) to pilot its SecureMe™ safety technology. This initiative supports the VA’s mission to advance early-stage innovations that increase access to care, reduce suicide risk, and improve the quality of services delivered to Veterans, caregivers, and their families.
SecureMe™ is a discreet, movement-sensing device designed to support lethal means safety in the home. By detecting movement or access to a secured firearm and sending real-time alerts, SecureMe enables timely intervention by caregivers or clinical teams, without compromising privacy or personal agency. The system is engineered to complement existing VA care coordination models and empower Veterans with an added layer of proactive safety.
As part of the pilot, Regal Products is partnering with researchers from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus to conduct a comprehensive survey of participating Veterans. The study will explore how emergent safety technologies like SecureMe can enhance risk detection, improve Veteran comfort with secure storage tools, and inform best practices in lethal means safety and crisis intervention.
“This is more than just a contract — it’s a chance to save lives,” said Shawn Kitchell, CEO of Regal Products. “We’re honored that the VA recognizes the promise of SecureMe as a Veteran-friendly, non-invasive innovation that supports mental health, personal responsibility, and timely intervention. Together with our partners at UC Anschutz, we’re committed to helping the VA advance practical, data-driven approaches to suicide prevention.”
This effort aligns with the VHA Innovation Ecosystem’s goal of identifying and testing scalable solutions that improve Veteran care and operational performance across the VA system.
