A Rumford man passed away Friday afternoon after his ATV rolled over on him.
At Approximately 12:30 this afternoon, Jeffrey Lang, age 78 of Rumford, was operating an ATV in the woods near Wyman Hill Road in Rumford while scouting for deer hunting season. Lang was driving the 2011 Yamaha 450 Grizzly up a steep hill on an old woods road when the ATV rolled over.
Lang was ejected and the ATV landed on top of him, pinning him to the ground. His wife, who was in the woods nearby, ran to get help. Another person at a nearby residence heard them calling for help and immediately called 911. Rumford Police and Fire personnel, Med-Care Ambulance, and Game Wardens quickly responded to the scene, but Lang passed away at the scene.
The initial investigation indicates that the operation of the ATV on the steep uneven terrain was the primary factor in the crash. This release will be updated if any new information becomes available.
