APPLETON, Wis. – CARNIVORE Magazine, a publication of CMG West, LLC, has released its latest issue, number 7, with the latest in field-to-table products, personalities, recipes, and wild game hunting.
The temperatures are dropping, the days are getting shorter, and there’s a certain sense of excitement in the air as we head into the most wonderful time of the year. In this issue of CARNIVORE, we could’ve trodden the well-traveled path of gear reviews and “Hey, look at this new shiny thing!” articles, but instead wanted to try something a bit different. By focusing on what happens after the shot, we hope that the sense of anticipation of heading afield is heightened, and that having preparations in hand for turning your animal into meals for family and friends will give an extra edge to the experience. We have a feeling this issue will find a place on the shelf along with the rest of your cookbooks, and wind up with its pages stained with sauces and grease — and maybe a little red wine.
Elsewhere, we get to speak with one of the guys responsible for bringing hunting into suburban living rooms, who has done more to explain our way of life to regular Americans than anyone else in the past decade. Steven Rinella is an author, presenter, director, and raconteur of good hunting stories and great recipes, and he delves into the reasons why we hunt better than anyone we know. One of those reasons is to share the experience with new people, and we recently had the opportunity to do that in South Africa, where the highlight of the trip wasn’t the variety or number of animals we encountered, but the opportunity to share our success with the local community. This is a story that’s almost never told in the mainstream media, but which contributes immensely to the wellbeing of people in need. So whenever you find yourself with an opportunity to feed others, take it. One of the best ways we know to make friends is to share meat around a fire, because it’s the essence of what makes us human.
Inside this issue we also review the Savage Impulse rifle as well as the MDT HNT26 Chassis System. We give you the inside track on flying with firearms to help mitigate unforeseen travel complications and also take a look at what it takes to get younger generations interested in hunting by getting them involved in preparing what’s brought home from the hunting trip for the dinner table. We also sat down with Chef John McGannon of WildEats about his approach to blending culinary arts with naturally sourced meat. There’s all this and a lot more on newsstands now.
