Whitetails Unlimited recently awarded a $4,000 grant to the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs located in Holland, New York. The organization represents more than 35 sportsmen and sportswomen associations in Erie County, New York, and focuses on recruiting and retaining young hunters. One of the most successful methods the federation uses to recruit young hunters is the raising and releasing of pheasants. This allows area clubs to coordinate youth pheasant hunts with a higher than normal success rate for younger novice hunters.
In addition to the pheasant release, ECFSC sponsors youth conservation education camps, women in the outdoors programs, and hunters helping the hungry. They are also heavily involved in state and local government agencies helping to improve hunting and fishing conditions. They do this by aiding in fish stocking programs and promoting the many outdoor uses of publicly available land.
