Texas S3DA Hosts Inaugural Outdoor Target State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – Archers from across the Lone Star State gathered in the scenic Texas Hill Country for a landmark event: the first-ever Texas S3DA Outdoor Target State Championship, hosted at the renowned Oak Ridge Archery range. Known as the premier destination for outdoor archery, Oak Ridge provided the perfect backdrop for this milestone event for Texas S3DA.

Youth archers showcased not only their growing skills but also exceptional sportsmanship. Jasper Wright and Weldon Stockard, both representing the Lago Vista Vikings, have had a friendly rivalry this year. The two have developed a strong friendship as middle school doubles tennis partners. Despite competing against each other in archery, their camaraderie was inspiring during the tournament. They were often the first to congratulate one another on a well-shot end, embodying the true spirit of archery.

Kameko St. Germain, an archer competing in the Eagle division, delivered an incredible score – the second highest score of the entire competition – despite having only picked up a bow five months prior. Her laser focus and determination were evident to all who watched her compete.

“This is what youth sports are all about – building friendships, supporting each other, and growing together,” said Dave Snyder, Texas S3DA State Coordinator. “Parents are very appreciative of having an archery range and youth teams right in their own backyard. With several small towns within an hour’s drive of Oak Ridge, this area is ideal for outdoor competitions. Hosting our first Outdoor Target State Championship is a huge step forward and shows that archery is truly growing in Texas.”

Adding to the excitement, the following day Oak Ridge Archery hosted Archery Fest, a collaborative event with the Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP). Archers and their families returned for a fun-filled and educational day focused on bowhunting, conservation, and hands-on activities. The event fostered a sense of community and a deeper appreciation for the outdoors. Dave Snyder presented the mission and benefits of the S3DA program to those in attendance, while Bob Barnette, Field Operations Coordinator for North Texas TYHP, joined in on the action, shooting alongside youth archers and learning more about them.

As Texas S3DA continues to gain momentum, events like these are paving the way for expanded opportunities, stronger youth programs, and unforgettable memories. Thanks to the support of Oak Ridge Archery and other local ranges, the future of Texas S3DA is brighter than ever.
