Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will offer both classroom courses and online field days for Hunter Education in Miles City this spring. Students ages 12-17 have the option to take the Hunter Education course online, but they must still attend an online field day in person to become certified to hunt.
Hunter Education Instructor-Led Classroom Courses
Classroom Course #1
March 14-16 (Friday through Sunday)
The first Hunter Ed classroom course is scheduled for March 14-16 at the FWP office. There is no cost for this course, but space is limited. Students must be 10 or older by the first day of class. Register online at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/224419. Print and fill out the required forms and bring them to class.
Homework packets must be picked up at the FWP office no later than Friday, March 7 or the student will be dropped from the class. Students are expected to read all chapters and complete chapter quizzes prior to the first day of class.
Students under 18 must have a parent or guardian present for orientation on Friday, March 14. Class runs from 6-8 that evening. Saturday’s session runs from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Students should bring lunch. Sunday’s session will run from 8 a.m.-noon at the FWP office. Students will need lunch and transportation afterward to the field day portion at Spotted Eagle Recreation Area, which runs from 1-4 p.m. Participants should dress for the weather and for hunting conditions. No shorts or open-toed shoes are allowed.
Students must attend all class sessions in order to pass the course.

April 4-6
The second Hunter Ed classroom course in Miles City is scheduled for April 4-6 at the FWP office. There is no cost for this course, but space is limited. There will be three opportunities for students who have completed the online Hunter Education course to attend a required field day in Miles City this year. The final field day will be for Hunter Ed and Bow Ed students. Adults are also welcome to participate in a field day, but it is not required. There is no cost to attend, but space is limited.
Field day participants will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
Instructors will closely evaluate students. Those who cannot demonstrate proficiency in the above topics will not pass and will not be certified. They will not be able to hunt until passing a field day.

A combined field day for students who have completed online Hunter Ed or Bow Ed will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 9 at Spotted Eagle from 9 a.m.-noon. Register online beginning July 15 at: https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/224423.
Miles City will also offer a Bowhunter Education classroom course and an additional online field day this spring; stay tuned for more details.
