South Dakota — Early fall in South Dakota offers the perfect opportunity bowhunt for massive elk in the ponderosa pines, which is exactly what Melissa Bachman, host of Winchester Deadly Passion, and her husband, Ben, are doing on this week’s show. Melissa and Ben spot and stalk bulls on the Rosebud Reservation in south-central South Dakota. The husband and wife team both have tags to fill, which makes the episode airing this week on Sportsman Channel the first part of two. The timing for the elk adventure was just right as Bachman delivered a healthy baby boy just a few week’s prior. After lining up babysitters, this family is ready for an adventure in the hills of South Dakota. “Most people don’t think of big bulls when you talk about elk hunting in South Dakota,” shared Ben Bearshield. “With the ponderosa pines and rolling hills, this area offers excellent elk habitat.”

The couple has spent hours scouting and placed their Spypoint Trail Cameras strategically to keep tabs on the herds. After months of hard work, the moment has come to pack up and spot-and-stalk for the bulls they spotted on their cameras, but getting within bowhunting range remains a challenge.
