FMG YouTube Channel Nets 1M+ Views in June

FMG Publications, publisher of America’s original newsstand shooting magazine, GUNS Magazine, is proving — after 70 years — it still knows how to connect with today’s audience.

In June, its thriving YouTube channel, FMGPubs, netted 1.3+ million views and added 4,375 new subscribers — marking nearly 5 million views and over 132K subscribers in the first half of 2025.

“I hate to say it, but we’re quickly losing our status as ‘the best-kept secret in gun journalism,’” jests GUNS Magazine Editor and Podcast Host, Brent T. Wheat. “But seriously, with our world-class staff of experts (who have been shooting longer than most video influencers have been alive) it’s great to see that there is still a place for quality information presented in an entertaining but non-dramatic manner.”

A growing catalog of over 1,700 videos includes every installment of the GUNS Magazine Podcast, “Gun Cranks” and “American Handgunner Insider.” Especially popular are the numerous short-form videos featuring “first look” product reviews and “how-to” tips from FMG Special Projects Editor Roy Huntington — nicknamed “America’s favorite grandpa” by one commenter.

Of the total year-to-date views, 321,175 can be attributed to the GUNS Magazine Podcast hosted by Wheat. While he is often joined by Huntington, other notable guests have included Darryl Bolke of American Fighting Revolver; Will Dabbs, MD, FMG contributor; and Buz Mills, owner of Gunsite Academy and NRA board member.

The newest addition to the channel, the “American Handgunner Insider” podcast/video series, debuted Aug. 2024. Hosted by American Handgunner Editor Tom McHale, it regularly posts over 20,000 views a month and is on pace to record half a million by the end of the year.

The secret to FMG’s success? According to Huntington, “The key seems to be being honest with what you’re presenting, admit it when you don’t know something and keep reminding everyone shooting is fun and should make you smile. Time is a valuable commodity, so for our viewers to be ready to spend it with us keeps us wanting to deliver quality content that is truly meaningful to them.”
