Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery has named Jennifer Laux as the new S3DA Michigan State Coordinator. As the State Coordinator, Jennifer will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in Michigan, including tournaments, trainings and the division of the state into regions that will allow S3DA participants multiple monthly competition venues with minimal travel. Jennifer will recruit and hire Regional Coordinators to oversee and manage these individual regions.
Jennifer was born and raised in Lowell, Michigan (a small farming town about 20 minutes east of Grand Rapids, Michigan) and currently resides in Lowell, Michigan with her family. She is married to Chad Laux and they have 3 children, Zachary, Jared, and Brianna. Jennifer has been a registered nurse for 15 years, most of which has been in the operating room. She has associate, bachelor and master’s degrees in nursing and has been a certified operating room nurse for 9 years. She currently works in the operating room of a children’s hospital.
Jennifer Laux was introduced to archery through her husband Chad. The day after their wedding they went to a 3-D course for a tournament and then to the airport to get on the plane for their honeymoon. However, three years ago she picked up a bow for the 1st time and began to really enjoy the sport. Recently, Laux has taken a more prominent role in archery as a coach (attaining Level 3 NTS Coach status from USA Archery) and as a judge (achieving National USA Archery Judge status last fall).
Jennifer Laux learned about S3DA through former State Coordinator Mikey McGhee. Mikey requested a meeting with a local archery club to talk about the possibilities of joining S3DA. As the Director of the Academy at West Michigan Archery Center, Laux was a part of that group conversation. After the meeting, Laux knew that her daughter Brianna was fast approaching high school and she loved that S3DA offers an opportunity to earn scholarships.
Jennifer stated, “Though we originally were introduced to the idea of S3DA at West Michigan Archery Center, through Mikey McGhee, we have had two phenomenal years with S3DA and really enjoy the team atmosphere that S3DA helps to promote within the archery center. We have a great group of youth archers that we work with and that is rewarding enough to keep me interested in continuing on with S3DA.”
Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving
thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
