Hillsdale College Halter Center Hosts USPSA Collegiate Championship

Kayla Mullin ’27 became the collegiate limited division national champion.

The Hillsdale College John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center, in collaboration with Springfield Armory, hosted the second annual United States Practical Shooting Association Collegiate Championship on Sept. 20 at Hillsdale’s Ailes Action Shooting Range. The Hillsdale Action Shooting Team took second place in both divisions, and Kayla Mullin ’27 won first place high overall in the limited division, outshooting all competitors to become the collegiate limited division national champion.

“Hillsdale’s shooting sports program attracts skilled and dedicated athletes, and Kayla’s achievement is an exciting milestone for the team,” said Adam Burlew, head coach of the Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team. “We were excited to host this competition with Springfield Armory again this year, and we look forward to more in the future.”

The annual Collegiate Championship aims to introduce collegiate shooters to the world of USPSA competitions. Fifty-three collegiate-level shooters competed in two divisions: limited and limited optics. This Level 1 match featured ten stages of shooting and concluded with an awards ceremony.

Hillsdale hosted the inaugural USPSA Collegiate Championship in collaboration with Springfield Armory last year, hosting 36 shooters.

This year, Hillsdale took second place in both divisions, competing against Texas A&M University, the United States Naval Academy, Clemson University, Virginia Tech, Michigan Tech, Michigan State University, LeTourneau University, and more.
