Leupold VX-6HD Gen 2 Named ‘Editor’s Choice’ by Petersen's Hunting

Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world’s most rugged, lightweight, and clear riflescopes, is pleased to announce that its VX-6HD Gen 2 riflescope was named as “Editor’s Choice” products by Petersen’s Hunting in the magazine’s annual gear issue.

The editorial staff at Petersen’s Hunting selected the VX-6HD Gen 2 as the top hunting riflescope for 2025, specifically recognizing its significant upgrades over the original, award-winning VX-6HD.

“The original VX-6HD was a great optic, but the Gen 2 version comes with a couple of significant upgrades over the previous model. First, the Gen 2 scope features SpeedSet dials which can be swapped out without a hex wrench. Second, the adjustment system is now the same one used in the Mark 5 scopes which have been the dominant optic in long-range shooting competitions.” said the Petersen’s editors in their review.

For apex hunters, success is more than the pursuit. It’s about dominating any condition or environment–a goal made even more attainable with the next generation of Leupold’s legendary Gold Ring riflescope. The VX-6HD Gen 2 family offers six different models, four different reticle options, and is loaded with new features. Whether you’re climbing rugged peaks in search of a ram or chasing bugling elk at last light–no matter the hunt, your path forward with the VX-6HD Gen 2 is one of total dominance.

“The VX-6HD Gen 2 wasn’t just a new product launch for us–it was the world’s best hunting riflescope getting even better,” said Bruce Pettet, President and Chief Executive Officer for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “It improves upon the industry-leading performance of its predecessors and delivers new features and enhancements that hunter across the country will value. We’re proud that the team at Petersen’s Hunting agrees.”

New is the innovative CDS-SZL2 dial, which eliminates the need for tools when zeroing or changing custom dials. By unlocking the lever on the SpeedSet dial, hunters will be able to reset the zero on their elevation and windage dials without having to use tools. The new dial features Leupold’s push-button ZeroLock system, eliminating accidental dial movement.

The VX-6HD Gen 2 also includes competition-grade precision adjustments and an integrated throw lever, mirroring the award-winning aspects which define Leupold’s Mark series of riflescopes. The VX-6HD Gen 2 is built around Leupold’s Professional-Grade Optical System, which delivers the light transmission, glare reduction, and resolution professional guides and shooters demand. An electronic leveling system simplifies mounting and improves long-range accuracy, while Guardion lens coatings shed dirt and water for clear, crisp images.

Like all Leupold riflescopes, the VX-6HD Gen 2 is proudly designed, machined, and assembled in the company’s factory in Beaverton, Oregon.
