Team Safariland’s Rob Leatham Takes 18th Win at 2020 USPSA Single Stack Nationals

The Team Safariland legend surpassed 178 contenders to win the Single Stack competition and finished second overall and high senior in the L-10 match

ONTARIO, California – The Safariland Group (“Safariland”), a leading global provider of safety products designed for the public safety, military, professional and outdoor markets, congratulates Team Safarilandmember Rob Leatham for winning the Single Stack event at the 2020 USPSA Classic Nationals at the CMP Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama, September 4 - 6, 2020. Safariland sponsored the match which featured Single Stack, Revolver and L-10 competitions.

Celebrating its 25th year, the USPSA Single Stack Classic Nationals is the championship event of the season for enthusiasts of the classic 1911 pistol design. Leatham has competed in every match and enjoyed his 18th overall win this year, beating 178 contenders by scoring 1349.85 points in 183.35 seconds.

“To battle in top-tier events decades after I began my career drives home the point that this kind of shooting is accessible to anyone,” said Leatham. “At age 59, no one expected me to be able to ‘run with the young guns’, but my time-tested, supremely reliable equipment – my Safariland ELS rig and Springfield Custom Shop 1911 – led me across the finish line in first place. Today, guns are more reliable, holster rigs are faster, ammo is better, and having the finest gear, including the support of companies like Safariland, dedicated to shooting sports is immeasurable.”

During the match, Leatham used Safariland’s 032 ELS Competition Belt with ELS Equipment Locking System,Model 5198 Open Top Holster, USPSA Kit and the Model 773 magazine pouches.

“Rob is a consistent competitor and has been an invaluable member of Team Safariland for more than 35 years,” said Bobby McGee, vice president, engineering and Team Safariland manager at Safariland. “It does not look like he plans to slow down anytime soon. He is an excellent example of what it takes to be a champion.”

Other Team Safariland competitors also fared well. Notably, Keith Garcia was the first Law Enforcement winner and Scott Carnahan, former Safariland Duty Gear vice president and co-founder of Team Safariland, was fourth Senior in the Single Stack division. In the L-10 competition, Leatham was the second Overall and first Senior; Garcia was the first Law Enforcement and Carnahan was the third Senior. 2020 marked the final event for Carnahan who Leatham described as a “long-time mentor, supporter and good friend, who will leave an impact on the entire firearms industry.”
