MassWildlife's Learn to Hunt Program is offering classes to help you learn new skills and improve your hunting knowledge and confidence. All classes are free and open to adults aged 18 or older. The information covered in each class is different, so you can sign up for a single class or register for several.
Black Bear Hunting 101
Wednesday, Aug. 20, 6 – 8 p.m., Virtual
During this 2-hour virtual class participants will learn black bear biology, laws and regulations, how to identify food sources and property to hunt, bear hunting gear and implements, and bear meat care in the field. This class will be taught through Zoom. Registration is required; register now.
Deer Hunting 101
Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Westborough
Join MassWildlife for an in-person class to learn deer hunting basics. Students will learn about deer biology, hunting regulations, scouting, tips for during the hunt, and what to do after the hunt. Registration is required and space is limited; register now.
Scouting for Deer
Sunday, Sept. 21, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Newbury OR Taunton
Learn what to look for when scouting for deer. Participants will walk through a Wildlife Management Area while instructors point out different sign and features to look for when scouting for deer. Registration is required; choose a location to attend.

MassWildlife staff will share tips for finding areas to hunt, demonstrate how to use online maps to identify good deer habitat, and describe what sign to look for while scouting in the field. This class will be taught through Zoom. Registration is required; register now.
Waterfowl Hunting 101
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 6 – 8 p.m., Virtual
Join MassWildlife staff and partners to learn all about waterfowl hunting. Topics include basic waterfowl biology and identification, laws and regulations, gear and equipment, and hunting strategies/techniques for beginner waterfowl hunters. This class will be taught through Zoom. Registration is required; register now.
Field Dressing
Sunday, Oct. 19, OR Nov. 30, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Westborough
MassWildlife staff will guide participants through the steps of field dressing a deer. This course will be offered twice this fall. Space is limited and registration is required. Due to limited space, please only register for one field dressing class
Deer Processing
Sunday, Dec. 14, 9 a.m. – 1p.m., Westborough
MassWildlife staff will walk you through how to process a deer including basic butchery skills, quartering the deer, grinding meat, and vacuum sealing. Space is limited and registration is required; register now.
