Game Wardens Lead Rescue of Man Who Fell Off Ledge at Screw Auger Falls

This afternoon, August 13th, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Game Wardens responded to Grafton Township after 21-year-old Brexton Getchell of Unity fell approximately 25-30 feet from a ledge in the area of the Screw Auger Falls waterfall.

Getchell landed in the water and sustained serious injuries in the fall. Maine Game Wardens, members of Mahoosuc Mountain Search and Rescue Team, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Bethel Fire and Rescue, Newry Fire Department, Maine DOT, and Life Flight of Maine also responded to the scene to assist in the technical rescue. Due to the challenging terrain in the gorge, rescuers carried the man through the water to a point approximately 300 feet downstream in order to safety extricate him, where he was then transported to Maine Medical by a LifeFlight helicopter.

This release will be updated if any new information becomes available.
