The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin’s popular Field Trips will be back this year with a record 275 trips across the state
As outdoorsy Wisconsinites start to plan their summer adventures, here's one date to keep in mind: The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin (NRF) opens registration for their extremely popular Field Trips at noon on April 4th.
Geared towards adults and families, this year's 275 trips offer something for everyone. Cave paddling in the Apostle Islands, prairie restoration hikes in southern Wisconsin’s prairies, wheelchair-accessible wildlife experiences, the list goes on.
The trips are so popular, some fill up right away on registration day. “People renew their NRF memberships in advance so they can scour their Field Trip Guidebook, highlighting all the trips they want to go on and are ready for the moment registration opens,” said Christine Tanzer, Field Trip Director.
One participant said of the 2023 trips, “Our son told us that the Field Trips were the best thing we did as a family.” Over 5,700 people went on NRF trips in 2023.
Folks who have been attending Field Trips eagerly anticipate the opening of the season each year. The trips, which can be perused before registration opens in NRF's Field Trip Guidebook, often become a major part of spring, summer, and fall outdoor adventure planning.
New this year, NRF is offering a carpool option for some trips to help participants lower their carbon footprint, and a new online trip finder map that makes it easier to sort by categories like physical demand, family-friendliness, and more.
NRF offers these expert-led Field Trips to encourage people to enjoy our state’s natural wonders, and to get more Wisconsinites involved in conservation.
Tanzer added, “We just want people to get out and explore Wisconsin. Not only is it a joyful thing to do, and good for you - it also starts people thinking about all the conservation work going on around them and how they can help.”
Field Trips are open to all NRF members. The suggested membership donation of $35 supports conservation projects in Wisconsin. To learn more about Field Trips, view this year’s online Field Trip Guidebook, and become an NRF member, visit wisconservation.org.
