Indiana: Halloween Happenings Weekend at Pokagon SP

The annual Halloween Happenings weekend will kick off with an outdoor Park-Inn movie— Hotel Transylvania will be shown on Potawatomi Inn’s lawn on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.

After the movie, guests can join a Night Hike to Hell’s Point. Participants should meet on the inn’s sun deck to begin the 2.2 mile, moderately rugged hike in the dark up to Pokagon’s highest elevation at Hell’s Point. Along the route, hikers will stop at stations for some hands-on learning experiences.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, the festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with Spiders & Cider at the nature center. From 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Potawatomi Inn will serve a spooky lunch (normal costs will apply). From 1 to 2:30 p.m., guests can participate in the annual pumpkin carving contest at the nature center. Pumpkins will be provided on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last. Some carving tools will be available but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each category following the contest.

Happy Owl-oween, presented by Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehab, will begin at 3 p.m. at the Potawatomi Inn. Live owls will be in attendance. In the evening, trick-or-treating will run in from 5 to 6:30 p.m in the campground. Listen to spooky stories at 7 p.m. in the CCC Shelter, where puppeteer Dave Rozmarynowski will perform “The Monster Maker,” a funny re-telling of the Frankenstein story.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. guests can sign up for the costume contest at the nature center. Voting will start during trick-or-treating and winners will announced at the spooky stories program. Campers can also vote on the best decorated campsite in each campground. Ballots can be picked up and dropped off at the campground gate. Winners will be announced on Oct. 29 on the Pokagon Facebook page.

All events are free after paying park entrance fees of $7 per in-state vehicle and $9 per out-of-state vehicle.
