Money collected from the Marine Fuel Tax has helped in several AGFC projects, according to the Fisheries Division's district office there. Marine Fuel Taxes are collected from the purchase of fuel for boats, and it's dedicated to projects that improve access to Arkansas's fisheries, such as improving boat ramps or access roads. In northwest Arkansas, five projects have been completed recently thanks to these tax dollars: Paving the parking lot, a turnaround, and the painting of new parking spots at the Don Roufa Access on Beaver Lake; the placing of large shot rock below the parking area at Arkansas Highway 45 Access on Beaver Lake to prevent damage to the parking lot; the placing of large rock on the upstream side of the Romphole Access on Kings River to prevent damage to the boat ramp; the repaving of the parking lot at Big Clifty Park, located on the east side on Beaver Lake, a good access for anglers in rural Madison County and is close to Eureka Springs; and replacing a low water crossing with a bridge (photo, top right) to allow better access to the Kings River. The latter effort, while funded by the Marine Fuel Tax, was a part of a larger collaborative restoration project between AGFC and The Nature Conservancy on Rockhouse Creek.
